James Merrill Heath

James Merrill Heath, 85, of Little River, NC, passed away peacefully at his home on February 13, 2026, after an extended illness, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on October 27, 1940, in Transylvania County, NC, to the late James “Hub” Herbert Heath(1958) and Lovella Merrill Heath(2012).

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Josephine Heath; his sister, Nancy Stamps; and his brother, Charles Wayne Heath.

James retired from Ecusta–Olin Corporation. He was a lifelong resident of the Little River Community and a lifelong member of Little River Baptist Church. A devoted bluegrass enthusiast, he was known for his love of the music and his talent as a picker.

He is survived by his son, Herbert Heath (Theresa) of Little River, NC; his sister, Frances Clark of Little River, NC; his grandson, Joshua Heath (Irene) of Hanford, CA; along with many cherished friends and loved ones.
